Black and Translucent Latex Skater Dress

Black down the front, smoke down the sides, and the two keep swapping places all the way round the skirt. Stand still and it is a black dress with something going on at the edges. Turn, and half of it disappears.

Translucent latex is not mesh and it is not lace. It is the same rubber as the black beside it, rolled thin enough to see through, so both panels catch light in exactly the same way. That is why the dress reads as one garment rather than as two materials put together, and it is the part that takes the longest to get right: every line between black and translucent has to be dead straight, because the contrast shows any wobble instantly.

The skirt is cut full, so it lifts when you turn and takes a beat to settle. Latex is not supposed to do that, and it is most of the reason people keep this one for the nights that matter.

Under it the legs are done the same way: translucent stockings to the top of the thigh with black knee socks pulled over them, so the black picks up again where the dress leaves off. Both are sold separately here, so you can build the whole look or take the dress on its own.

Latex: natural latex, 0.4 mm. Light enough to move in all evening, heavy enough to hold its shine and its shape.

Putting latex on: take it slowly, a little at a time, roll the stockings up the leg rather than pulling from the top, and mind your nails on the clear panels. A dusting of talc on your skin first makes it glide instead of grip. Translucent latex marks easily, so keep it away from dark fabric and untreated leather.
